Totally just updated Q@mera to version 2.0.4 to correct some minor quirks in the previous build and to add some significant new features.
Notable among the new features are an embedded AVFoundation-to-VDIG camera input converter (aka shim/adapter/trampoline) and an integrated window-grabber VDIG (input) so that you can create streaming Q@mera effects using the source of any on-screen window as a virtual camera input. The filtered output is then made available to CMIO (AVFoundation camera apps) as a live camera input. Sound too good to be true? True that!
COMPATIBILITY: Snow Leopard (10.6), Lion (10.7), Mountain Lion (10.8), Mavericks (10.9), Yosemite (10.10), El Capitan (10.11), Sierra (10.12) and High Sierra (10.13). Live long and frosty!
CamCamX 2.0.8 Unified Update (Web Download & Mac App Store)
With release 2.0.8 we've unified the Mac App Store and Web Download into one update. Mac App Store customers will need to install the updated version after activating the CamCamX2.app in the /Applications folder.
We've updated Q@mera to version 2.0 (actually 2.0.1), rebuilt from the ground up with both CMIO (AVFoundation) & VDIG (QuickTime) virtual camera drivers.
The CMIO driver works with modern versions of Skype and most browser-based video uploaders so you can go live with your webcam turned back to 1956. It's your own personal Twilight Zone, replete with wavy noise and wobbly screen.
Snap a selfie and enjoy alpha transparency. Transparency channel video (QuickTime Animation Millions+) can also be emitted for low-budget B-movie effect fun. Final Cut, After Effects and some versions of iMovie can composite our transparency channel movies into an effects sequence, if you like things that way.
You've heard of rapid prototyping? Well, this is vapid prototyping at it's finest!
VirtualEyez 2.0.10 - Four Channel Video Switcher with Screencasting
VirtualEyez now with four channels of greenscreen camera inputs and/or integrated screencasting. Switch live camera sources with incoming Skype and FaceTime video for your live streaming interview show!
We have updated our backwards-compatibility Mac webcam driver to version 1.0.7. This free download (.prefsPane) provides camera functionality backward to QuickTime(tm) applications, such as those products of ours (pOpOp, DotMatrix & CamCamX2) which are available in the Mac App Store and for download on our website.
This handy helper also allows our sandboxed Mac App Store apps to interoperate with VirtualEyez.
NOTE: This driver is specific to b-l-a-c-k-o-p.com apps. If you need a general solution for using modern FaceTime HD cameras with older QuickTime(tm) applications, please try the free version of VirtualEyez.
The bug fixes include ability to drop arbitrarily-sized images into the background image key. The app will detect and resize images to 640x480 before use. However, images with aspect ratios other than 4:3 may have transparent borders.
QZMovier - QTZ to MOV Converter Mac OS X - Free Download
We needed a way to render Quartz Composer compositions (.QTZ files) into high quality QuickTime(tm) movies with transparency for our low-budget special effects desires. QuickTime(tm) Player can no longer perform this function due to changes in the platform. Thus, we created QZMovier.app. Available as part of the everything bundle. Fully sandboxed and compatible with 10.6.8, 10.7.5, 10.8.5, 10.9.x and 10.10.x. We're still working out the kinks so if you find a schnizzle, let us know.
We have updated our QTKitVDIG compatibility driver to include support for switching between external cameras. This is a tricky problem and it works fairly reliably. However, if you experience problems with the new version, you should continue to use the older version (still included in the download).
When running any of our virtual camera apps (CamCamX, GrabberRaster, VirtualEyez etc) in the background under 10.10 - please be sure to disable AppNap (an energy-saving feature of 10.10 OS X). Otherwise the OS will freeze the camera app after about 3 minutes.
Art Institute of Chicago Opens Bridget Riley Exhibit
Art Institute of Chicago Opens Bridget Riley Exhibit Today - BWWVisual ArtsWorld: "The Art Institute of Chicago will be the first American museum in nearly 15 years to present a solo exhibition of the work of British Op Art artist Bridget Riley. The exhibition, which will run from today, November 11, 2014, through March 8, 2015, will feature the Art Institute's own Ascending and Descending Hero, an important early black-and-white painting, alongside Continuum, the artist's only sculptural work, and two of her 'stripe' paintings."
Introducing VirtualEyez 2.0 - 3 Channel Video Switcher with Chroma-Keying for Mac
We're proud to present this new version of VirtualEyez for Intel Macs. It runs on all modern Macs with 10.6.8 and higher. The CMIO virtual camera driver is compatible with Mavericks and Safari, and the VDIG camera driver spans compatibility backwards to QuickTime(tm) camera apps.
For this version of VirtualEyez, we wanted to distill the app down to its most valuable features and make those features as fast as possible. We ultimately dispatched with CoreImage in exchange for its faster and more primitive cousin, OpenGL.
Apple celebrates 30 years of Mac with special webpage, video
Apple celebrates 30 years of Mac with special webpage, video - visitors to Apple's official website are met with a new splash page wishing Mac a happy birthday. After a short intro, users are directed to the "Mac 30" mini site, essentially an interactive animated timeline crafted to tell the Mac story from its beginning in 1984.
Greets to all present, past and future downloaders of BLKOPS. We have made a wide email announce (our second such email in 6 years) today in celebration of the acceptance of CamCamX2 into the Mac App Store.
If, for some reason, you don't want an email from us every few months or so (we get one every two days from Apple), please be sure and contact us.
At first, we didn't think it was even technically possible: to make an application with a system driver work from inside the Mac App Store "sandbox".
Then, we noticed that Apple had developed new tech to sandbox their own media applications.
So we rolled up our sleeves and went to work. Almost two years in the making, CamCamX 2.0 (Mac App Store Edition) is 100% sandboxed and 100% CamCamX.
We were able to shoehorn CamCamX2 into the sandbox by separating the camera driver technology into a separate download (a System Pref Pane). Not only does it work with our original QuickTime(tm) compatible ('VDIG') driver technology, we also developed a new AVFoundation (CoreMediaIO) driver and updated our CoreImage Unit for use with Quartz Composer. All three system plug-ins are packaged into a convenient system preference pane for "paneless" installation.
DotMatrix Free and MacBook Air Mid-2013 Built-in FaceTime HD Camera
The new MacBook Air (mid-2013, released in June) has a new kind of widescreen built-in camera.
As promised, we've created a BLKOP-specific camera driver that enables all b-l-a-c-k-o-p.com webcam apps to seamlessly access the new FaceTime HD camera in the mid-2013 MacBook Air (and later) Mac models.
This new driver also allows CamCamX2 and DotMatrix to open the Built-in iSight camera using "Shared Mode". You can switch between shared mode and exclusive mode.
The driver is packaged in a convenient System Preference Pane. Just download the DMG and double-click to install the PrefPane and then install the VDIG component.
The driver can be easily removed from the Pref pane.
Mid-2013 MacBook Air Camera Compatibility Problems
The new MacBook Air (mid-2013, released in June) has a new kind of widescreen built-in camera.
From what we've been able to determine, the camera is not compatible with older applications which rely on QuickTime because, the camera is not a UVC USB webcam. Therefore, the built-in UVC QuickTime driver is not utilized.
VirtualEyez, one of our webcam products, can open the camera using the newer camera APIs and create an older, QuickTime(tm) compatible camera output, thereby virtualizing the camera for older applications.
We've also developed a fix for our own applications. Should be ready shortly.
It's not the primary function of the product, but CamCamX is capable of serving as a fake webcam with the latest versions of Mac desktop browsers, including 64-bit Safari and 32-bit Google Chrome.
Why would you use a fake webcam? Well, aside from the obvious voyeuristic uses, having a bit of software between your home webcam and the Flash-based video world might just prevent an unauthorized webcam snapshot. Because it makes the system more complex to the attacker who would assume either a single webcam or a webcam that can be turned on and off via Flash. Which is not true of a webcam exposed through the mixing layer of CamCamX.
After an intensive year of R&D into such esoteric Mac tech as "application sandboxing","CoreMediaIO DAL plug-ins" and "IOSurfaceRef frame buffer objects", CamCamX is both new and improved with an upgrade aimed at streaming live to Adobe Flash 11.7 video enabled Flash websites, the standard for most internet video sites, including YouTube.
A brand new device driver (works seamlessly beside the original QuickTime 'VDIG' driver) exposes your live show to the world of Lion, Mountain Lion and whatever lies beyond the giant cat.
Registered customers can upgrade for just $30.
NOTE: The demo version of 2.0 has not yet been posted, but we're shipping 2.0 to customers.
Best known as the father of the mouse, but in reality, a highly influential member of Silicon Valley culture that shaped the early days of computing.
The computer scientist Alan Kay, a co-founder of Xerox PARC, said later: "The demo was one of the greatest experiences of my life. To me, it was Moses opening the Red Sea … It reset the whole conception of what was reasonable to think about in personal computing."
If you have artwork that you need to send to clients, but don't want them to have access to the underlying curves or Adobe Illustrator metadata, consider the "rasterization" feature of PDFBatchBuild Mac, our PDF concatenation app for Apple Mac.
We initially designed PDFBatchBuild for creating composite PDF documents over and over again from the same sources (kind of an assembly tool), but it works well in the scenario described above.
