FaceTime HD Camera VDIG for DotMatrix and CamCamX (includes Mac App Store versions)

We've updated our FaceTime HD VDIG camera driver to support all versions of MacOS X (10.8-10.14) that are compatible with 32-bit Apps and QuickTime Player(tm) compatible camera drivers. In particular, these drivers should enable camera access for DotMatrix FREE which was in the Top 100 free Graphic Design apps on the Mac App Store for almost 10 years.
We have lots of Macs that can run 10.14 Mojave but not Catalina and we assume you do as well!

Although you can install the drivers on Catalina and Big Sur, they will be non-functional.

CamCamX 2.0.8 Unified Update (Web Download & Mac App Store)

With release 2.0.8 we've unified the Mac App Store and Web Download into one update. Mac App Store customers will need to install the updated version after activating the CamCamX2.app in the /Applications folder.

Instructions for dealing with the dreaded CamCamX2.app IS DAMAGED ERROR are on the support blog.

Disable AppNap in 10.10

When running any of our virtual camera apps (CamCamX, GrabberRaster, VirtualEyez etc) in the background under 10.10 - please be sure to disable AppNap (an energy-saving feature of 10.10 OS X). Otherwise the OS will freeze the camera app after about 3 minutes.

CamCamX2 (Mac App Store Edition) Released

At first, we didn't think it was even technically possible: to make an application with a system driver work from inside the Mac App Store "sandbox".

Then, we noticed that Apple had developed new tech to sandbox their own media applications.

So we rolled up our sleeves and went to work. Almost two years in the making, CamCamX 2.0 (Mac App Store Edition) is 100% sandboxed and 100% CamCamX.

We were able to shoehorn CamCamX2 into the sandbox by separating the camera driver technology into a separate download (a System Pref Pane). Not only does it work with our original QuickTime(tm) compatible ('VDIG') driver technology, we also developed a new AVFoundation (CoreMediaIO) driver and updated our CoreImage Unit for use with Quartz Composer. All three system plug-ins are packaged into a convenient system preference pane for "paneless" installation.

Depending on what international App Store you're in, CamCamX 2.0 should be appearing soon at this link.

CamCamX2 2.0.2

In this new release of CamCamX2, we've incorporated the CoreMediaIO DAL driver for AVFoundation and the CoreImage Unit into the Preferences pane for "paneless" installation.

No more drag installs, just open Preferences under the CamCamX menu. CamCamX includes a mini-installer for driver plug-ins.

Also in CamCamX 2.0.2 is an integrated version of the Mid-2013 MacBook Air camera fix. You will not need our MacBook Air Mid-2013 webcam driver with 2.0.2.

If you're not using CamCamX and are looking for a compatibility driver for old webcam apps running on the latest MacBook Air mid-2013, try VirtualEyez.

CamCamX updated to 1.811

CamCamX, the live webcam mixer for Mac, now features increased performance on all modern multi-core Macs.

Version 1.811 includes several performance optimizations for OpenGL and Intel multicore processors. This update is recommended for all customers running 1.810.

The new lower-third title feature has been improved. Switching to a view of of the presidential debate on Camera B? Simply type "DEBATE" in the title field and the output automagically reflects the value.

Probably the most practical new feature in 1.811 is the ability to set arbitrary rotation and scaling values on the mix to secondary display. If you're using a projector mounted upside down or need to otherwise rotate the display to match some environmental situation, CamCamX can address it.

CamCamX 1.810 Update Lower Third Titles

CamCamX, the live webcam mixer for Mac now has support for lower-third title overlays on both the A/B sources.
As detailed in our technical note: if you plan to use CamCamX with internet/Flash based streaming services, use the Google Chrome browser as recent security updates to Safari and Flash have introduced incompatibilities that are yet to be resolved by those respective vendors. These incompatibilities affect all virtual camera solutions worldwide, including GoogleTalk.

Adobe Flash 11 and BlackOp Virtual Camera Drivers

IMPORTANT: When running any of our apps that create "virtual camera" devices via our loopback driver, you must run Safari in 32-bit mode when using Adobe Flash 11 or higher.

1. Locate Safari in Finder.
2. Choose "More Info..." button or "Get Info..." from the File menu.
3. Select the box marked "Open in 32-bit mode."

Products affected: CamCamX, GrabberRaster, GrabberWindow, FourEyes3D and DotMatrix.

CamCamX 1.805 with QuickLook Live Streaming

Live streaming from CamCamX to any QuickLook application was introduced in Leopard, but CamCamX had compatibility problems with changes made in Snow Leopard. We found and corrected those problems and have added additional goodies to the Leopard Goodies folder in the installer disk image. This is a recommended update for all Snow Leopard users.

CamCamX updated with 64-bit CoreImage plugin

CamCamX now includes a CoreImage (CICamCamXInput.plugin) for use with 64-bit Quartz Composer and any/all 64-bit CoreImage-enabled application(s), including iChat.

For example, you can use CamCamX with iChat Theatre to add two additional cameras to your iChat sessions. Simply connect the two external USB cameras, start CamCamX, open iChat and then share the .QTZ file included with CamCamX (you must first install the CoreImage plugin file CICamCamXInput.plugin).
